Desechos convertidos en arte: organización extrae el plástico de playas y mares para transformarlo en esculturas

Según un estudio, anualmente se vierten unos 15 millones de toneladas de plástico en el océano. Por lo anterior, existen organizaciones como Washed Ashore, que se dedica a extraer miles de libras de plástico de las playas para transformarlas en esculturas. Actualmente, hay una exposición en la Isla de Galveston que reúne varias de estas piezas artísticas y que buscan generar conciencia entre la comunidad, además de evitar que se siga contaminando el ambiente.

The Tennessee Aquarium in downtown Chattanooga will host a special art exhibition, “Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea” beginning on April 16. All of the art was created out of plastic that washed onto beaches. These works of art help spark conversations about how individuals can reduce the amount of single-use plastics in their lives, helping improve water quality.

A new type of exhibit at Norfolk Botanical Garden is using art to highlight the detrimental effects of plastic pollution on marine life.
On display through Oct. 31 in the Enchanted Forest area of the garden, the “Washed Ashore Art To Save The Sea” traveling exhibit features a variety of free-standing sculptures of ocean creatures fashioned from plastic debris collected from beaches.
